Witton Becerra Mayorga is a Colombian literary scholar, currently Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto (2025–2026) and Professor in the Escuela de Lenguas Extranjeras at the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC). He holds a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Western Ontario, where his dissertation developed a poetics of salsa music, later published as El ritmo y la palabra (UPTC, 2022). His research covers salsa lyrics and their literary antecedents, oral tradition and water narratives in Boyacá, ecocriticism, and digital humanities. He has published eight books, directed two documentaries, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the UPTC University Press and editor of the journal La Palabra. His current project examines the political relationship between the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico through salsa lyrics.
